Despite the similarity in their names, Plantalk and OpenAI's PlantTalk project are entirely separate and unrelated. Plantalk is an independent technology company founded before OpenAI publicly released its PlantTalk project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to OpenAI.
After two years of product development and technical iteration, Plantiemoji was showcased at CES 2026 and later received support from 435 Kickstarter backers worldwide, providing an initial signal of consumer interest in AI-assisted plant care. A video posted organically on Plantalk's Instagram account surpassed one million views, attracted 3,000 new followers in seven days, and generated numerous comments and direct messages asking where to purchase Plantiemoji, demonstrating strong consumer interest in the product's unique approach to plant interaction. The product was also featured in CES 2026 coverage from Berlingske and Dawn.
From giving plants a voice to helping people understand plants
The rapid development of large language models has created new possibilities for AI companionship, including systems that simulate conversations with plants. Plantalk believes another challenge deserves equal attention: many people struggle to interpret the environmental signals plants continuously provide.
Changes in leaf condition, soil moisture, lighting, temperature and growth patterns can all reflect how a plant is responding to its environment. Unlike traditional smart plant monitors that primarily display raw sensor readings, Plantiemoji is designed to help users understand what those readings mean. The device continuously monitors soil moisture, ambient light and temperature, then combines those readings with plant-specific care profiles and AI-assisted analysis to generate real-time visual feedback.
When readings are within the recommended care range for the selected plant, Plantiemoji displays a clear status expression. When watering, lighting or temperature conditions may need attention, the display changes to alert the user.
Plantiemoji also works with the Plantalk mobile application, bringing together plant-care information, localized environmental data and AI-assisted recommendations in a connected indoor plant care system. The combination of hardware, software and AI technology is intended to make plant health monitoring more accessible to everyday users.
